St. Benedict the Moor

Throughout its 92 year history, St Benedict the Moor has been a gathering place where a rich variety of people have been affirmed and welcomed. In 1908, St Ben's primary purpose was establishing a mission to serve the growing number of African Americans living in Milwaukee. Through the years a variety of services have been offered at St Ben's. In addition to a Community meal program which feeds hungry and homeless people six nights a week, St. Ben's has a clinic which provides health services with an understanding of the special challenges, strengths, and needs of each homeless person and those at risk for homelessness, especially the chemically dependent and mentally ill. St. Ben's is located across the street from the Milwaukee County Jail and has many parishioners who are actively involved in jail advocacy work.
